i got called about another case, two 12-hr overnights. when i asked how much i'd be paid, sure enough, overnights are paid differently. $90 a shift for 12 hrs, which averages to about $7.50/hr. still below minimum wage in my state. it's not a sleeping shift, so i don't even know how they justify paying me that little. but...i didn't know what else to do. over the phone, i reflexively said something like, "whoa...that's not much money ..." (long pause, feelings of guilt/self-loathing/i-guess-i-don't-deserve-betterness build) "but...that's ok."

so i took it. but it's fucking not ok. i don't want it to be "ok."

...whatever, i guess i won't have to do much work and can probably get school stuff done at the woman's house, so it won't be that bad...hopefully...even though last time was. i just feel so worthless knowing i'm willing to work for less than minimum wage...knowing that there are companies that think they can treat someone with a degree the way most jobs wouldn't dare to treat someone still in high school. my dad seriously told me that this was what i "should expect" having graduated with a "useless" major.

i need a respectable job. i felt weird enough never being able to say no when i worked for stone belt...when i made a normal $10/hr wage.

UGHHHHH this company is so fucking sketchy/it makes me so mad that so many people want to let them get away with this!

ha. i guess this is what most asshole writerly types call an "odd job." i guess i'll be working a lot of "odd jobs" this year. except this is not a "job" to me, and the only thing "odd" about it is their system of paying people about 1/100th of what they're worth.

lol ok so I may start posting my random POF conversations here cause some are pretty hilarious. but prolly won't cause its alot of effort.

Class was cancelled yesterday, adn karaoke is cancelled tonight so i'll prolly spend tonight and tomorrow in DDO, i spent last night here too. how odd.

BUT I WANTED TO TELL YOU GUYS ABOUT THE FUNNY GAME I HAVE GOING WITH LAUR
lol

well only kinda seeing as how i'm fairly certain i wouldn't sleep with guys just to win a game...

especially since i'm so far behind...

now if i had my own place...

lol ANYWAY

the "game" is this:

Sleep with a guy from each continent. Laur is winning of course. cause i've got... Asia. lol but i feel confident that its still anyone's game. Its kinda hilarious (to me at least) that i don't even have North American (and it is based on country of birth not skin colour ok? its important. LOL)

Shallow? yes. kinda morally wrong? Well its not like we've really gone out and "competed" if you will. Mostly just a joke to keep us going through the long lonely nights *tear*

Killi suggested a sub-game for me, sleep with an Asian from each continent, which pretty much makes me giggle for days.

so the list is

Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia.

We're only really concerned about Antartica, so we may strike that one from the list. but until one of us makes forward momentum i feel like its not an issue.

thoughts? lol

Diary [12 Nov 2009|12:35pm]

It's just after midday and I've just returned from the city centre . The bulb over my PC expired and that makes it difficult to see the keyboard at 5 AM every morning . So I decided to buy some more . To my horror I noticed that I'd lost my keys ! Luckily , I had a spare set made . When I got on the bus I'd completely forgotten my reason for going in town . PANIC ! Gradually , by "thinking" backwards I remembered . I bought some new bulbs in 2 different sizes , with the understanding that I could change them if necessary . Needless to say , neither size fits , even though one seems identical with the old one . It's blazing hot as usual .
I bought "El Zorro" as I hope to keep up with Isabel Allende's monumental obra/oeuvre .
Khun Puttri , my excellent Thai lawyer , emailed me to say that everything is completed over there . I thanked him profusely , saying he'd turned my dukkha into sukha - Buddhist joke .
By the way , when I got back I found my original keys still in the lock . If anyone finds my sanity please return it to me !

When my girlfriend and I have sex the only one getting off is her. It's not that I have a hard time getting off or even that she doesn't know how to please me. She simply does not try. She gets lazy or idk but she leads me up to the moment, I get in the mood.. we go at it. I go down on her and well, we're done. It's not that I give to receive. The thing that bothers me about it is that; to me, sex is between 2 people. When i have sex with my girl, my main objective is to make her feel good, to show her my love. We've been together for 9 months now and this has been going on for half the legnth of us being together. It makes me feel like complete shit. Like I'm doing something wrong or I'm I'm not doing enough. I almost feel used. Whatever it is, bottom line is, it hurts. I've talked to her about it and for a while it has gotten a little better but it still happens half the time as apposed to all the time.
Has anyone had experience with this? Am I wrong for letting this get to me? Any advice?

Mute Magazine. Our wall is a house of cards, and it's falling.
In Times of Crisis: Act!

Monday, 9 November, 2009

It has been 20 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall. We are ‘celebrating’ this anniversary at a time when global capitalism and liberal democracy, the so-called winners of the Cold War struggle between East and West, find themselves in one of the deepest economic and political crises since the Wall Street crash in 1929 and the global turmoil that followed. Perhaps more significantly, however, this is the first crisis that Eastern Europeans are experiencing since their so-called ‘transition’ from a state socialist to a capitalist ideology. What should we make of this transition since 1989? Rather than engaging in a traditional analysis of the winners and losers of this transition, I am interested in what today’s capitalist crisis has perhaps in common with the crisis of state socialism in 1989. I will explore this question by engaging with the German film Good Bye Lenin!.

Crisis, What Crisis?

The press is currently reporting – on an almost daily basis – that we are in the midst of one of the deepest and most serious economic crises since the 1929 Wall Street crash. While it is clear that most of the media has not quite given up on capitalism – for example, the Financial Times’ motto seems to be ‘Capitalism is dead; long live capitalism’ (Wolf, 2009) – it is nevertheless significant that even the most outspoken apologists for capitalist free markets see a real danger in the capitalist system itself being under threat.

As someone who grew up in East Germany and went through a life-defining crisis in 1989 – the fall of the Berlin Wall – I find the current capitalist crisis strangely satisfying. Not that I do not have a heart for all those who are currently suffering because of this crisis. There are those millions who have lost their jobs, those who live in constant fear of job insecurity, and the millions who are affected by the massive cut-backs in social spending. The current crisis has unprecedented implications throughout the world. Latvia, for example – one of the ‘Baltic Tigers’ that until recently were celebrated for their ‘transition’ successes – has had to be bailed out by the IMF. This forced the government to cut the wages of public service workers, such as teachers, by up to a half(!), reduce state pensions by 10 per cent and the unemployment rate has risen from around 5 to over 14-15 per cent within two years (for more details, see Kuper, 2009). This is thus clearly a crisis that is affecting millions of people around the world in very real terms. What I find somewhat satisfying is not at all that people are suffering but that a system that just a few months ago nobody thought could ever come to an end is now in a deep economic, political and legitimation crisis. That is, what is good to see is that the over-confidence of capitalism – symbolized by astronomical increases in executive salaries, stock market booms and the construction of ever higher skyscrapers – has now experienced a real crack. For me, there are real parallels between today’s crisis and that of 1989. Back then, too, nobody – even those strategists of the West whose full time job it was to destroy the East – expected the state socialist system to crack and eventually fall in the spectacular fashion it did. Perhaps, then, we have not seen the end of today’s crisis!

Something flashy [10 Nov 2009|11:58am]

I borrowed a separate flash unit from T, for a photoshoot. I always said flash was invented by the devil (because most flash pictures have red eyes, shiny foreheads, burned-out whites, and harsh shadows.) But I really have to change my mind, this flash is soo nice and soft and just right :)
